Review on To The Bone

To the Bone | Netflix Official Site

This movie is starred by Lily Collins, Keanu Reeves, Carrie Preston and sorry I can't remember much the names of the actors. Yes, it is about eating disorder faced by a 20-year-old lady. I felt scared throughout the movie. Knowing how much body-conscious I am and also the people around me, it is like looking how deep is the trap by watching this movie. In the process of looking better in the best we can or we expect, there is a strong tendency that we might go far till we deny ourselves, therefore, lost the ability to love ourselves. This is scary.

In this movie,  it tells some lacking experienced by the main actress, thus, it went on manifested in her eating disorder. Very often we are a few steps from this borderline because constantly chasing a so called perfect figure could be addictive till it affects your mood of the day, your work, your plan of the day and also your relationship with others. When I mention eating disorder, you might be thinking of bulimia and anorexia but it also involve binge-eating. We might be in either way of the direction.

Seeing how people suffer from this disorder is scary. However, knowing how people around react around people with this disorder is even more terrifying. Imagine if there is someone who is very bony, whose look like his/her body left with bone and 1 cm skin with very prominent rib bones in front of you, what would you think? You point the obvious and look at the obvious. Imagine if someone who is fleshy in front of you, how would you react? You will fix your eyes on this person whenever he/she eats as if the person is doing something sinful.

Eating is considered quite a main agenda of our daily lives. Having the joy in eating is like a little heaven we ought to have everyday. Imagine if this piece is taken out from your life and you find it like hell and you have to go through it everyday in order to survive, meanwhile everyone is looking at you like a freak. I dislike the expression sinful which is commonly expressed in food like chocolate cake, fried chicken and etc. Gluttony is a sin but appreciating different kind of food in just the right amount is what we called appreciating the beauty of life. Maybe one day when you encounter someone with this disorder, try to ask more about how they've been rather than pointing out something physically obvious as if you know everything about nutrition. Less judge. Let the professionals take the lead.

As for ourselves, a healthy lifestyle requires discipline. So when you're meant to work out, you push your ass off. When you are meant to eat, you eat. Well, you might be dreaming of sexy bodies in insta with pretty lifted booties, consider it as a bonus of your workout but not something to die for. Your body is you. You are your body. Not some soul putting into a shell. The whole of yourself is what made physical from a romantic banging (well, for good and for bad one) and aalso unique and no one can replace. Maybe before you try to lose weight or fall into any latest trend, take a tour around your body and appreciate each and every corner of your body as nobody can like your body better than you do.
